Data & Methodology

Our data sources

Every price on GoldPrice Convertercomes from a named third-party provider — we do not estimate, model, or invent figures. When a source is unavailable, we show a clearly marked “unavailable” state rather than a stale or made-up number.

• Spot metal & crypto prices — gold, silver, platinum, palladium and copper, plus major cryptocurrencies, are sourced from gold-api.com, benchmarked to the international (LBMA-style) spot market and quoted in US dollars per troy ounce.
• Currency exchange rates — conversions from USD into local currencies use live ExchangeRate-API rates. This is what lets us price gold in any supported currency, even ones the metals feed cannot convert natively.
• Inflation adjustment — our gold-versus-inflation tools use official U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics — CPI-U, annual average (1982–84 = 100). These are published historical figures, not estimates, with 2024as the “today’s dollars” reference year.

How often the data refreshes

Live spot prices update throughout the trading day. Currency rates refresh on roughly an hourly cycle upstream and are cached for that period on our side to stay fast and within fair-use limits. Because the precious-metals market moves continuously, any figure you see is a snapshot for the moment it loaded — refresh the page for the latest value. Closed historical periods (past years and completed days) do not change once settled.

How we convert prices

All metals are quoted by the market in US dollars per troy ounce (31.1035 grams). Everything else is derived from that single benchmark with standard, fixed unit definitions:

• Per gram = USD price per ounce ÷ 31.1035.
• Per tola = per-gram price × 11.6638 (the South-Asian tola).
• Per kilogram = per-gram price × 1,000.
• Karat purity — 24K is treated as fine (100%) gold; lower karats scale by their gold fraction (22K = 22÷24 ≈ 91.7%, 18K = 75%, and so on).
• Local-currency price = USD price × the live USD→currency exchange rate.

These figures are indicative spot values. They deliberately exclude dealer premiums, making charges, GST/VAT and other local taxes, so the price you pay a jeweler or dealer will be higher than the spot figure shown here.

Historical charts

Historical price charts are drawn from the same metals provider and are presented in US dollars. We do not retroactively convert historical series into other currencies, because doing so accurately would require matching historical FX rates for every day — a level of precision we would rather not imply than approximate. Where you see history in a local currency, it reflects today’s exchange rate applied for illustration, and we say so on the page.

Calculators

Our calculators apply transparent, standard formulas to the live data above:

• Converter & karat value — unit and purity maths exactly as described above.
• Zakat — applies the traditional 2.5% rate to the live market value of the gold and silver you enter; you choose the nisab basis.
• Gold & inflation— restates a past gold price in today’s dollars using the CPI series cited above, so you can compare real (inflation-adjusted) value.
• Investment analyzer — compares an entry price against the live (or selected-period) price to show nominal profit or loss; it does not forecast future prices.

What these numbers are not

GoldPrice Converter provides data and tools, not financial advice. Prices are indicative and can be delayed or interrupted; calculator results depend entirely on the inputs you provide.
